# Affiliate disclosure: how recommendations work on this site

Some links on matthummel.com are affiliate links. If you buy through one, I may
earn a commission and you pay the same price. This page lists every program I take
part in, where those links appear, and how I decide what to recommend.

Partners

## Current affiliate partners

Two programs today. Both are tools I pay for and run this site on. I add a partner
only when I already recommend the tool without a commission, and this list is the
complete one.

### Hostinger

Managed WordPress hosting. matthummel.com runs on it — LiteSpeed cache, PHP 8.3,
and the hPanel I hand to shops at handoff. It is the host I recommend for small
shops, tours, and inns that want to own their site without a sysadmin.

### n8n

Workflow automation. It runs the publishing pipeline behind this site: release tracking,
post drafts, and the status that reaches my wp-admin dashboard. I recommend it to
agencies that want automation they can self-host and read.

More programs may be added as they are approved. When one is, it appears here first,
before any link goes into a post.

Where

## Where affiliate links appear

Affiliate links show up in three places. Everywhere else on the site — the hire
pages, project pages, and the contact form — has none.

### Resources

The [Resources](https://matthummel.com/resources/) page lists the tools I recommend
and the stack this site runs on. Partner links there carry an Affiliate label.

### Journal posts

A [post](https://matthummel.com/blog/) that names a partner tool may link to it.
The post says so near the top, before the first link.

### Project and support pages

Theme and plugin pages may point to the host or tooling the demo runs on. Same label,
same disclosure.

Rules

## How I choose what to recommend

A commission never puts a tool on this site. I use it first, on my own work or a
client’s, and I say when an opinion comes from research instead of firsthand use.

 * I use the tool myself before I recommend it.
 * The recommendation would be the same with no affiliate program.
 * Partners do not see or approve what I write about them.
 * If a tool stops earning the recommendation, the link goes and so does the partner.
 * Prices and features change. Check the provider’s current terms before you buy.

Labels

## How affiliate links are labeled

Every compensated link is marked in two ways: a visible Affiliate label next to
it, and `rel="sponsored"` in the HTML so search engines treat it as paid. That is
the method the [Google Search documentation (opens in a new window)](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/qualify-outbound-links)
asks for, and it follows the [FTC’s disclosure guidance (opens in a new window)](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/disclosures-101-social-media-influencers)
on making the relationship clear before the click.

Pages with compensated links also carry a one-line disclosure near the top that
links back here.

Questions

## Common questions about affiliate links

Do affiliate links cost me more?

No. The price is set by the provider and is the same whether you use my link or
go direct. The commission comes out of their side.

Which programs are you in right now?

Hostinger and n8n. The partners section above is the complete, current list and
is updated before any new link goes live.

Do sponsors or partners review your posts?

No. Nothing on this site is sponsored content. Partners do not see drafts, suggest
edits, or pay for coverage.

Will you recommend a tool just because it has an affiliate program?

No. Plenty of tools I recommend — Claude Code, GitHub, WordPress itself — pay nothing.
The affiliate list is a subset of what I already use.

Does this apply to the themes and plugins you sell?

No. Those are my own products, sold directly on this site. This page covers third-
party tools only.

How do I ask about a specific recommendation?

Send a note through the [contact page](https://matthummel.com/contact/). I will
tell you whether the link is compensated and why the tool is on the list.
